At least 18 people have been killed after armed gunmen invaded a community in Zamfara State, in yet another deadly attack in Nigeria’s north-west region.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred in Bunkasau village, located in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state. The attackers, said to be more than 80 in number, reportedly stormed the village on motorcycles around 9pm on Friday and began shooting sporadically.

Mahmud Dantawasa, Zamfara commissioner for information and culture, confirmed the attack in a statement, expressing condolences to the affected community over the loss of lives and destruction of property.

The state government also reiterated its commitment under Governor Dauda Lawal to tackle insecurity and curb the activities of armed groups responsible for repeated attacks across the region.

Zamfara has remained one of the worst-hit states by banditry in Nigeria, with rural communities frequently targeted in raids involving killings, kidnappings, and looting. These attacks are often carried out by heavily armed groups operating from remote forest areas.
