Ondo State Police Command has arrested suspects after a motorist allegedly drove off with a traffic officer inside his vehicle in Akure, the state capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on April 3 when two suspects, identified as Olopade Abraham and Emmanuel Taiwo, reportedly violated traffic regulations at Cathedral Junction. A senior traffic warden, Kehinde Oliniju, stopped them and directed the driver to follow her to the station.
However, instead of complying, the driver suddenly sped off, taking the officer along to an unknown destination. The police said, “the driver suddenly detoured to an unknown destination with the officer still in the vehicle.”
Following an alarm, a patrol team attached to the Fanibi Division pursued the vehicle and intercepted it at Winners Chapel Junction along Ondo Road, where the officer was safely rescued. The suspects were subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
The police also disclosed a separate incident in which another suspect allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted an officer during a traffic enforcement operation in the Oba-Ile area.
Authorities confirmed that all suspects involved in the incidents have been charged to court, while the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended officers for their swift response and professionalism.
The command reiterated its zero tolerance for traffic violations and attacks on law enforcement officers, urging the public to obey traffic laws and lawful directives.
