Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has declared his intention to contest for the Delta North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that Okowa made the announcement at his residence in Asaba while receiving political leaders and stakeholders from the Delta North senatorial district.
The delegation, which included current and former lawmakers as well as government officials, unanimously urged him to join the race. A motion supporting his candidacy was moved and seconded by key political figures and received full backing from those present.
Responding to the call, Okowa accepted the request, stating that he felt honoured by the overwhelming support and unity among leaders in the district. He added that he would consult widely with stakeholders before formally beginning his campaign across the local government areas.
The former Governor also admitted that politics is a learning process and pledged to continue improving while seeking to represent the district again in the National Assembly.
In a notable remark, Okowa apologised to the people of Delta North for a “mistake” in supporting the emergence of Ned Nwoko, who currently represents the district in the Senate.
