The United Kingdom and France have announced plans to host a major international summit involving more than 40 countries to address the ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz and restore global shipping.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to reports, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the closure of the vital oil transit route is deeply damaging to global trade and worsening cost-of-living pressures worldwide.
The planned summit, to be co-hosted with French President Emmanuel Macron, will focus on developing a coordinated multinational strategy to ensure safe navigation and protect international shipping in the region.
The initiative comes amid heightened tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran, which has led to severe restrictions on vessel movement through the strait, a route that handles a significant share of global oil supply.
Reports indicate that discussions at the summit may include the creation of a defensive multinational naval mission to secure the waterway and guarantee freedom of navigation without directly engaging in the conflict.
Starmer also stressed that reopening the strait is critical to stabilising global markets, as disruptions have already triggered shipping delays and rising energy costs worldwide.
The UK and France are positioning the summit as part of a broader international effort to coordinate post-conflict maritime security and prevent further economic fallout from the crisis.
