Ashly Robinson, the content creator widely known as Ashlee Jenae, has died at the age of 31 while on vacation in Zanzibar.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement shared on April 12, family members said Robinson had been travelling with her fiancé, Joe McCann, when she was “found unconscious in her villa and rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later.”
Authorities, in a statement cited by local outlet Mwananchi, said preliminary findings suggest Robinson died by suicide. Police also alleged that following a reported “misunderstanding” between the couple, hotel management had separated them into different rooms.
Police commander Benedict Mapujira said there were no plans to detain or pursue legal action against McCann, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Neither McCann nor the resort, Zuri Zanzibar, where the couple stayed, had responded to media enquiries as of the time of reporting.
Robinson had shared moments from the trip just days before her death, including posts celebrating her 31st birthday. In one caption, she wrote:
“Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.”
According to her family, the couple had recently become engaged during a safari, a milestone Robinson also documented on her social media pages.
Reflecting on the loss, her family said:
“One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone. The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family.”
They added that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing, with the family working alongside local authorities in Zanzibar.
Based in Portland, Robinson had built a following of more than 88,000 on Instagram, where she shared lifestyle content, including travel, personal moments, and her relationship with McCann.
