Tragedy struck in Ilara-Mokin, a community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, after a middle-aged woman collapsed and died while accompanying her son to a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre.
Gatekeepers News reports that eyewitnesses said the deceased, identified as Oluwasola Adebayo, had escorted her son to the examination venue when she suddenly complained of weakness shortly after arriving at a junction near the centre.
She was said to have collapsed unexpectedly, and efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful. She was confirmed dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, her son was reportedly inside the examination hall writing the UTME, unaware that his mother had fallen ill and died outside.
The incident threw the area into confusion and grief, with residents and passersby expressing shock over the sudden death. The exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the command was informed of the sudden death and had contacted the family of the deceased.
According to him, after proper verification, the remains were released to one Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.
