The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has donated 250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to support the take-off of the unit.
Gatekeepers News reports that FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed, received the donation from the PCRC national chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, alongside members drawn from the national, zonal and state chapters of the committee.
Muhammed commended the PCRC for the gesture and pledged that the fuel would be put to judicious use.
According to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the PCRC chairman praised the commissioner for establishing the Violent Crime Response Unit in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.
He said the initiative would improve the command’s operational capacity, boost rapid response to emergencies and strengthen public confidence in policing in the FCT.
“In further demonstration of its support, the PCRC donated 250 litres of petrol to facilitate the take off of the newly established Unit,” the statement said.
“The Chairman reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the FCT Police Command, in achieving a safer and more secure society.”
Responding, the commissioner thanked the PCRC for its continued support and partnership, assuring that the new unit would live up to public expectations.
“He assured that the Violent Crime Response Unit will justify the confidence reposed in it by the public and will operate in strict compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police,” the statement added.
The command also reiterated its commitment to tackling crime and urged residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines.
