The outgoing Sector 2 Commander of Operation Hadin Kai ((OPHK) Brig. Gen Beyidi Martins on Tuesday declared that, under his leadership and with the support of his troops, several suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were eliminated in coordinated operations across towns and villages in Borno and Yobe states.
Gatekeepers News reports the successes recocorded according to Briig. Gen Martins was made possible due to the provision of necessary enablers and the priotization of troops welfare by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu .
Gen Martins made the discliosure while speaking to journalists at the Sector 2 headquaters in Damaruru, the Ypbe State capital .
According to him, Sector 2, which covers Yobe State and seven local government areas in Borno State, has intensified its offensive against Boko Haram terrorists, destroying several insurgents’ camps and recovering large quantities of fighting equipment during coordinated military operations.
” Sector 2 has been engaged in ensuring the the Timbuktu triangle that served has hideouts for terrorists is cleared.
“Some of the major successes recorded include the comprehensive defeat of Boko Haram terrorists in Katarko, Goniri, Kukareta, Buratai and Azir towns, where the Nigerian Army, with support from the Air Component, neutralised several terrorists.” Gen Martins said .
The Commander expressed confidence that the renewed offensives and sustained military pressure would eventually crush the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists and pave the way for lasting peace, stability and improved socio-economic activities in the affected communities.
He called on governments at all levels to step up their roles in addressing the non-kinetic aspect of the war against Boko Haram terrorists through improved education, youth empowerment, community engagement and humanitarian support aimed at tackling the root causes of insurgency.
He therefore assured that ” Sector 2 will continue to intensify clearance and deep insertion operarions within the Timbuktu Triangle ,.Bulabilin fores other terrorist enclaves across the sector “.
