Desmond Elliot Apologises To Gbajabiamila Over Lagos Assembly Crisis

Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over disagreements linked to the Lagos Assembly crisis.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC Communications’s programme Your View on Friday, saying any friction between them may have stemmed from political misunderstandings.

The lawmaker stressed that he never intended to offend Gbajabiamila and reaffirmed his loyalty to party unity and the development of his constituency.

According to Elliot, he entered politics under the guidance of Gbajabiamila, whom he described as his “egbon,” noting that misunderstandings may have contributed to their differences.

“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.

He added that political relationships are not free from mistakes.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” Elliot stated.

The actor-turned-politician also extended an apology to what he described as the “matriarch of Surulere.”

“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he added.

The apology follows recent comments by Gbajabiamila, who revealed how he nearly lost his position over Elliot’s alleged involvement in the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis surrounding the impeachment saga involving Mudashiru Obasa.

In a viral video from a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbajabiamila said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu contacted him during the crisis and raised concerns that Elliot was among those allegedly involved.

“He is part of the people causing problems in the Lagos Assembly. I am telling you from intelligence that he was part of them. Go and tell him to retrace his steps,” Gbajabiamila quoted the president as saying.

Gbajabiamila, however, said he defended Elliot despite not having spoken to him at the time.

“I just said he wasn’t,” he stated.

According to the Chief of Staff, he later contacted Elliot and warned him to distance himself from those involved if he was connected to the matter.

Gbajabiamila said the situation escalated days later when his own name began circulating in connection with the crisis because of his relationship with Elliot.

“Of course, the president will not believe Desmond will do such a thing, and I will not know,” he said.
