Police Confirm 32 Pupils And Teachers Still Unaccounted For

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that 32 persons remain missing following the attack and abduction at schools in Esiele community, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Gatekeepers Newreports that police spokesperson, DSP Oluyinka Ayanlade, said the missing persons include seven secondary school students, 18 primary school pupils, and seven teachers affected during the incident.

The attack targeted Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele community last Friday, raising fresh concerns over the security of schools in the state.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ayanlade disclosed that, “Seven students, 18 pupils, and seven teachers are still missing.”

He added that security agencies have intensified search-and-rescue operations and increased patrols across surrounding communities to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and arrest those behind the attack.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde said the surveillance aircraft procured by his administration has arrived in Nigeria and is currently at a Nigerian Air Force facility in Lagos for assembly ahead of deployment.

Makinde spoke while briefing journalists at the Government House in Ibadan after the attacks on the three schools in Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area.

According to the governor, the aircraft manufacturer from China arrived in Nigeria a few days ago and assembly work is expected to be completed within two weeks.

“The surveillance aircraft have arrived in the country. As of today, they are at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos, where they are being assembled,” Makinde said.

“The manufacturer from China arrived in the country about three days ago. They should have about two weeks to finish their work. I can say conclusively that those surveillance aircraft should be in operation on or before the end of June.”
