Shareholders of Seplat Energy Plc have confirmed the appointment of Nigerian billionaire businessman Tony O. Elumelu as a non-executive director on the company’s board.
Gatekeepers News reports that his appointment was confirmed following the completion of corporate changes linked to the divestment of a major shareholder stake by French energy firm Maurel & Prom, which sold its 20.07 percent holding in Seplat to Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies—companies controlled by Elumelu.
Elumelu’s appointment had earlier been announced by the board after the transaction made his investment group the largest shareholder bloc in Seplat Energy.
According to company disclosures, the board reshuffle also followed the resignation of Olivier Cleret De Langavant, who previously served as a non-executive director representing the former shareholder.
Elumelu, who is the founder of Heirs Holdings and chairman of several major companies including UBA Group and Transcorp, is expected to bring extensive experience in energy, finance, and investment strategy to the board.
Seplat Energy said his appointment aligns with its long-term growth strategy and efforts to strengthen governance and expand its position in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
