Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has emerged as African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the constituency ahead of 2027 general election after winning the party’s primary election unopposed.
Gatekeepers News reports that El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC, polled 7,727 votes in the primary, securing the party’s ticket without any challenger.
His emergence reinforces his position as one of the prominent figures within the opposition coalition preparing for the 2027 elections.
In a statement following the exercise, the lawmaker expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, stakeholders and supporters for what he described as an overwhelming vote of confidence.
He said his emergence reflected the trust reposed in him by ADC members and residents of Kaduna North, pledging to continue serving the constituency diligently.
El-Rufai also addressed concerns surrounding his exit from the APC, insisting that while he was a member of the ruling party, he neither worked for nor financed opposition parties.
According to him, his decision to join the ADC was based on conviction, and he vowed to campaign vigorously for the party ahead of the next general election.
The lawmaker won the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 general election under the APC platform before switching allegiance to the ADC as part of the broader opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
