Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has revealed that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected N196.13 billion out of the N246 billion billed to customers nationwide in March 2026, representing a collection efficiency of about 79.7 per cent.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to the regulator’s latest report, the amount recovered by the 11 DisCos left more than N49 billion in outstanding payments for the month, underscoring the persistent challenge of revenue collection within the power sector.

NERC said the figures form part of its assessment of the operational and financial performance of electricity distribution companies and provide insight into the health of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

The commission noted that improving revenue collection remains critical to strengthening market liquidity and ensuring that operators across the electricity value chain are adequately funded. It added that efforts to address metering gaps, energy theft, and other commercial losses remain key priorities.

The development comes amid ongoing reforms aimed at boosting efficiency in the power sector. Industry stakeholders have continued to call for increased metering, better customer enumeration, and stronger enforcement measures to improve bill recovery and reduce losses.

NERC said it will continue to monitor the performance of DisCos through periodic reports designed to track billing efficiency, collections, and overall service delivery across the country.
