Nigeria’s hurdling star, Tobi Amusan, continued her impressive 2026 season by winning the women’s 100m hurdles gold medal at the Taiwan Athletics Open in New Taipei City.
Gatekeepers News reports that the 29-year-old stormed to victory in a time of 12.72 seconds, finishing ahead of Taiwan’s Zhang Bo-ya, who claimed silver in 13.17 seconds, while compatriot Yi Po-an took bronze in 13.37 seconds.
Amusan’s winning time set a new meeting record, erasing the previous mark of 12.80 seconds held by former world champion and Olympic silver medallist Nia Ali.
The Nigerian was dominant throughout the competition. After comfortably winning her qualifying heat, she carried that form into the final, taking control of the race after the fourth hurdle and pulling away from the field to secure a convincing victory.
The triumph marks the second consecutive meeting record Amusan has broken this season. Just last week, she won the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco, where she clocked 12.28 seconds to set another meeting record.
Amusan has now won three of her five races this season and remains one of the top contenders in the women’s 100m hurdles ahead of the major championships later in the year.
