Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm, cash and other exhibits during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the command said the operation was carried out by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of sustained efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village.

Following a report of the incident, the command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources aimed at securing the victim’s release and apprehending those responsible.

The police said sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and pressure mounted on the gang eventually led to the victim’s safe release on June 18 without harm.

Subsequent efforts were directed at tracking down members of the kidnapping syndicate.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state.

“The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries,” the statement said.

According to the command, a search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun.

It added: “A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while further examination of the scene yielded one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2,200,000), reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.”

The police said investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects and uncover the full extent of the gang’s activities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their professionalism, bravery and operational efficiency.

He said the success of the operation underscores the command’s commitment to pursuing kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state.

Ojajuni also assured residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven policing and tactical operations to safeguard lives and property.
