Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Friday presented a proposed budget of N1.854 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.
Gatekeepers News reports that the appropriation bill marks another step in the state’s post-political crisis governance following the restoration of constitutional order.
Presenting the proposal before lawmakers, Fubara described the budget as one focused on accelerating economic growth, improving infrastructure, strengthening education and healthcare, and expanding social welfare programmes.
He assured the assembly that every allocation would be prudently managed and directed toward projects that would improve the lives of Rivers residents.
The Governor appealed to members of the assembly for speedy consideration and passage of the budget to enable the government begin implementation without delay.
He stressed that the proposed spending plan was designed to sustain ongoing projects while creating opportunities for investment, job creation and economic development across the state.
Speaker Martins Amaewhule received the budget on behalf of the assembly and assured the Governor that lawmakers would give the proposal the necessary legislative attention.
He said the House would scrutinise the estimates in line with its constitutional responsibilities before making a decision on the appropriation bill.
