Tinubu Keeps Shettima As Running Mate For 2027 Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, officially ending months of speculation over the composition of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

Gatekeepers News reports that the development was confirmed on Friday after the President submitted his completed APC presidential nomination forms.

The nomination documents were submitted on Tinubu’s behalf by his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja. Masari said the President had completed all the necessary documentation, including the required sworn affidavits, and formally nominated Shettima as his running mate for the election.

The submission comes amid widespread reports that Tinubu was considering replacing Shettima ahead of the 2027 polls following consultations with party stakeholders and political allies. However, the President’s decision to retain his deputy has effectively put an end to the speculation, with the ruling party set to head into the election with the same ticket that secured victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Receiving the nomination forms, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, described Tinubu’s administration as one committed to reforms and national development.

He expressed confidence that the party would secure another victory in the 2027 general election, saying the APC remains united behind the President’s re-election bid.

The confirmation of Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate is expected to reassure supporters of the ruling party, particularly in the North-East, where the Vice President hails from.
