Borno Youth Groups And Students Lead Campaign To Support Security Agencies Against Insurgency .

A coalition of youth groups and student associations in Borno State , recently unveiled #UNITEAGAINSTTERROR campaign to mobilise public support for Nigeria’s security agencies in the ongoing fight against insurgency, describing the battle against terrorism as a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen.

Gatekeepers Newreoports that the campaign, which is already gaining momentum across several communities in the state, seeks to encourage young people to reject violent extremism, promote peaceful coexistence, support intelligence gathering, and strengthen collaboration between local communities and security agencies.

This was made know when the youth groups and students coverged at the Post Office roundabout area of the city in Maiduguri , the state capital .

The organisers said the initiative is aimed at changing long-held negative perceptions and buildibg a stronger partnership between residents and security personnel operating in the North-East.

Some of the young persons present stressed that lasting peace in Borno cannot be achieved through military operations alone, but also through sustained community support, vigilance and public cooperation.

Hannatu Abana Lawan , a final year engineering student of University of Maiduguri ( UNIMAID ) stated that, young people have a critical role to play by providing” credible information to security agencies, discouraging the spread of extremist ideology, resisting misinformation, and promoting unity amongst Nigerians

” We are seeking and praying for a better Nigeria. Change must begin with each and every one of us by supporting our security agencies in their efforts to safeguard the nation. Together, we can build a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live, work, and pursue their aspirations without fear. National security is a shared responsibility, and every Nigerian has a role to play in promoting peace, unity, and stability.” Lawan said

Some of the organisers noted that Borno youths have become ambassadors of peace by engaging in awareness campaigns in schools, communities and places of worship, encouraging residents to report suspicious activities promptly and to support legitimate security operations.

“Terrorism has killed our people, destroyed our communities and stolen peace from our homes. This fight is not for government alone; it is the responsibility of every Nigerian.

“We must also speak with one voice against the payment of ransom to kidnappers, bandits and terrorist groups. When we deny them financial support, we weaken their operations.” Sttudent leader, Suleiman Muhammad Sarki said .

The rally ended with solemn prayers for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in defending Nigeria and its citizens. Paticipamts also offered prayers for the safety, courage, and victory of the nation’s security agencies in their ongoing fight against insurgency and other security threats.
