The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says electricity supply to Maitama and several surrounding areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been disrupted following the alleged invasion and encroachment on its Maitama substation by suspected land grabbers.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Sunday, the power distribution company said the development had been escalated to the highest levels of the FCT Administration, prompting the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to AEDC, the affected C2 Maitama Substation is a critical electricity distribution facility that supplies power to residential communities, businesses, diplomatic missions and government institutions within the area.
“AEDC wishes to inform our valued customers and the general public that the matter concerning the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation has now been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” the statement said.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas.”
The company said it is working closely with the FCT minister, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to secure the facility, safeguard the critical electricity infrastructure and accelerate the restoration of power supply.
“We commend the Honourable Minister for his swift intervention and unwavering commitment to resolving the matter,” AEDC added.
The distribution company reaffirmed its commitment to restoring electricity to the affected areas as quickly and safely as possible, while thanking customers for their patience, understanding and continued support during the disruption.
