Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has directed all large companies in the country to fully comply with the National Electronic Invoicing (e-Invoicing) and Electronic Fiscal System (EFS) by July 31, 2026, as part of efforts to modernise tax administration and improve revenue collection.
Gatekeepers News reports that the tax authority said the initiative is designed to enhance transparency, curb tax evasion, and enable real-time monitoring of business transactions. Under the new system, eligible companies are expected to issue invoices electronically through approved platforms that are integrated with the NRS.
NRS noted that large taxpayers were the first category selected for the implementation of the e-invoicing programme due to the volume and value of their transactions. It urged affected businesses that are yet to complete the integration process to do so before the deadline to avoid possible regulatory sanctions and disruptions to their operations.
The agency added that the e-invoicing system will simplify tax compliance, improve the accuracy of tax reporting, reduce manual errors, and strengthen the country’s digital tax infrastructure. It also said the rollout would eventually extend to medium and emerging taxpayers in phases.
