Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending about a week in captivity following his abduction by gunmen.
Gatekeepers News reports that the judge was kidnapped on July 26 from his residence along Zogirma Road in Bunza Local Government Area shortly after returning from a trip to Sokoto. He was released on Monday, August 3, bringing an end to days of uncertainty over his whereabouts.
Confirming the development, the Kebbi State Police Command said Bunza’s release had been verified by both his family and the state Ministry of Justice. Police spokesperson Bashir Usman disclosed that although the kidnappers demanded a ransom, the command maintains its policy against ransom payments. He, however, did not state whether any payment was made before the judge was freed.
According to the police, security agencies have intensified efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the abduction. The command also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all tips would be treated confidentially.
