Team Nigeria concluded its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a seventh-place finish on the final medals table after securing 24 medals across athletics, weightlifting, judo and para-sports.
Gatekeepers News reports that the performance also saw Nigeria emerge as the highest-ranked African nation at the Games. Nigeria finished with 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, capping a successful 10-day outing highlighted by several historic achievements.
Athletics contributed the largest share of the medals, with Samuel Ogazi claiming gold in the men’s 400 metres, Ezekiel Nathaniel winning the men’s 400m hurdles, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi capturing the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games men’s shot put title.
The team also celebrated victories in para-athletics, where Goodness Nwanchukwu successfully defended her women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus title, while Flora Ugwunwa added another gold in the women’s F54-57 javelin event. Weightlifting and judo also contributed to the medal haul, with Enku Ekuta ending Nigeria’s 24-year wait for a Commonwealth Games judo medal.
Nigeria’s tally was initially boosted by a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m relay, but it was later downgraded to bronze after Canada successfully appealed its disqualification for an alleged lane infringement. The revised result gave Nigeria a final total of 24 medals.
Australia topped the overall medals table, followed by England and Canada, as the curtain fell on the Glasgow 2026 Games, with India set to host the next edition in 2030.
