Troops of Operation Fansay Yamma have repelled a terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians abducted during the assault.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, acting deputy director of Army public relations, the terrorists launched the attack in the early hours of Sunday in an attempt to overrun the military facility. However, troops mounted a fierce resistance, forcing the attackers to retreat after an intense gun battle.
The army said the fleeing terrorists abducted residents from the surrounding community as they escaped. Troops immediately pursued the attackers, engaged them in a firefight and successfully rescued nine victims, comprising three women, four men and two children. The rescued civilians have since been reunited with their families.
Osoba added that several terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Troops also recovered weapons, motorcycles and other items abandoned by the fleeing assailants. Clearance operations are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the group and prevent further attacks in the area.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups across the north-west, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
