Hajia Rukayyah Aledeh, the mother of Gatekeepers News Publisher, Sulaiman Aledeh, and matriarch of the Aledeh family, has passed away.
Gatekeepers News reports that her eldest child, Hon. Hud Aledeh, announced her demise in a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, 2026, on behalf of the family.
The statement expressed the family’s submission to the will of Allah (SWT) and called on friends, relatives and well-wishers to pray for the deceased and offer support to the bereaved family.
Described by those close to her as a beloved mother and grandmother, Hajia Aledeh’s passing has been felt deeply within the Aledeh family and among the wider circle of friends and associates who knew her.
Her son, Sulaiman, is a veteran journalist and broadcaster with over two decades in radio and television, having anchored programmes for Channels TV, TVC, Arise News and Classic FM, and most recently served as Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service.
Given his public profile and long-standing presence in Nigerian broadcast journalism, news of his mother’s death has drawn sympathy from within the media community and beyond, as friends, colleagues and members of the public join the family in prayer during this period of mourning.
In line with Islamic tradition, the Janazah prayer for Hajia Aledeh is scheduled to hold immediately after Zuhr Salah, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The prayer will take place at Ibadurrahman Masjid, Lucky Igbinedion Way, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.
The family appealed to members of the public to remember the deceased in their prayers, asking Allah to forgive her sins, overlook her shortcomings, and grant her eternal rest. They further prayed for Allah’s mercy upon her soul, asking that her grave be illuminated and expanded, and made “a garden from the gardens of Paradise.”
The statement also contained prayers that Allah grant her the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus, and that the family be granted the sabr, strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
Hajia Aledeh leaves behind children, grandchildren, and a wide network of relatives and admirers who remember her as a devoted matriarch whose influence shaped the family across generations.
