Nigeria met and exceeded its OPEC crude oil production quota for the third consecutive month in July 2026, with combined crude oil and condensate output averaging 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd), according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Gatekeepers News reports that NUPRC data showed that the country produced an average of 1.505mbpd of crude oil and 0.17mbpd of condensate during the month, bringing total daily production to 1.67mbpd.
The figures put Nigeria slightly above its OPEC crude oil production quota of 1.5mbpd.
During the period under review, the country’s combined daily production peaked at 1.78mbpd, while the lowest recorded output stood at 1.57mbpd.
Despite meeting its OPEC quota, July’s output represented a four per cent decline from the previous month.
The NUPRC attributed the reduction to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo oil fields, which affected production during the period.
The regulator said the disruptions constrained production volumes and contributed significantly to the overall decline in national crude oil output.
However, it noted that production operations across most other producing assets remained relatively stable, with operators implementing measures to sustain efficiency and minimise the impact of the operational challenges.
The July figure followed Nigeria’s strong production performance in June, when crude oil and condensate output averaged 1,735,398 barrels per day, marking a fourth consecutive month of growth.
According to a statement issued by the NUPRC and signed by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, crude oil production stood at 1.56mbpd in June, while condensate production averaged 0.18mbpd.
The June figure represented 104 per cent of Nigeria’s 1.5mbpd OPEC crude oil production quota.
In crude oil terms alone, excluding condensates, Nigeria’s average production of 1.56mbpd in June was the country’s highest since April 2020, representing a 74-month high.
