Bruno Fernandes has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Year for the 2025/26 English Premier League season, becoming the first Manchester United player to win the prestigious award in 16 years.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Manchester United captain succeeds former United forward Wayne Rooney, who won the award in the 2009/10 season. Fernandes is also only the second Portuguese player to receive the honour, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s victory in 2007/08.
The 31-year-old enjoyed a remarkable campaign, recording a Premier League-record 21 assists and scoring nine goals. His performances helped United finish third in the league and secure Champions League football for the following season.
Fernandes has now added the PFA award to the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year prize and the Premier League Player of the Season award, completing a notable treble of individual honours for the campaign.
Since joining United in January 2020, Fernandes has established himself as one of the club’s key players. He has recorded 110 goals and 106 assists in 314 appearances for the club, reaching 200 goal involvements faster than every United player in the Premier League era except Rooney.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Khadija “Bunny” Shaw was named the PFA Women’s Player of the Year for the second time, while City defender Nico O’Reilly won the men’s Young Player of the Year award. Arsenal forward Olivia Smith claimed the women’s Young Player of the Year prize for a second consecutive year.
