An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath a military vehicle during a routine patrol in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, damaging the vehicle but causing no casualties.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 6:50 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, along the Ihite Ukwa–Health Centre axis, according to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
The affected troops were from the 34 Artillery Brigade, who were conducting a routine patrol when the vehicle triggered the explosive device.
The blast damaged the front-right fender of a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, but no soldier was killed or injured in the incident.
Following the explosion, troops continued security operations in the area while efforts were intensified to prevent further attacks along the route.
The incident highlights the security challenges confronting troops operating in parts of Imo State, particularly around the Orsu axis, where security forces have previously encountered explosive devices.
