Bello Mandiya, former senator representing Katsina South, has died at the age of 62. He died on Monday, September 7, 2026, in Abuja, according to the Katsina State Government.
Gatekeepers News reports that Mandiya was elected to the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and represented Katsina South in the Ninth National Assembly until 2023. Before his election, he served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
Governor Dikko Radda expressed shock over his death, describing it as a “great loss” to Katsina State and Nigeria. Radda said Mandiya was a committed public servant whose contributions to the development of the state and country would be remembered.
The governor added: “Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered.”
Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan also mourned Mandiya, describing him as a “thoroughbred lawmaker” who demonstrated diligence, intellect and a “deep sense of responsibility” during his time in the Senate. Mandiya chaired the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed. His funeral prayer was scheduled to take place at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
