The Nigerian Army has approved the redeployment of several senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions as part of efforts to strengthen its operational effectiveness and leadership structure.
Gatekeepers News reports that redeployments were approved by Major General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Appolonia Anele, acting Director of Army Public Relations.
The Army said the exercise was aimed at aligning its command structure with Nigeria’s evolving security environment, with particular attention to critical operational theatres and strategic appointments.
Among the major changes, Major General IA Ajose was moved from the Army Headquarters’ Department of Army Operations to become Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI. His predecessor, Major General AE Abubakar, was redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research.
Other senior appointments include Major General RT Utsaha, who moved to Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander, while Major General AM Umar was appointed Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria.
Major General GS Muhammed was redeployed from the Office of the National Security Adviser to become Director-General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, while Major General JE Osifo moved to the Military Pension Board as Chairman.
At the operational level, several brigadier-generals were also redeployed. Brigadier-General MS Adamu was appointed Commander of the newly established 8 Brigade, while Brigadier-General MS Sule was moved to command 27 Brigade.
The Army said the newly appointed officers had been tasked with demonstrating exemplary leadership, operational innovation and professionalism while remaining committed to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
