Troops have rescued six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) and their driver after a kidnapping attempt along the Daye-Malufashi road in Katsina State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims were rescued on Monday night in Danmusa Local Government Area after troops responded to a distress call over the incident at about 10:48pm, according to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The students and their driver were subsequently handed over to the Katsina State Police Command to continue their journey.
The incident occurred amid ongoing security operations along major routes in the state aimed at disrupting kidnapping and other criminal activities.
In a separate operation in Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace rescued two kidnap victims in Mangu and Bokkos local government areas.
The report said troops responded to sporadic gunfire from suspected kidnappers at Panyam in Mangu, where they rescued a victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was evacuated to COCIN Hospital for treatment.
At Fanga village in Bokkos, troops also foiled another kidnapping attempt after suspected kidnappers fled upon sighting the security personnel. An injured victim was rescued and taken to a clinic in Daffo, while efforts continued to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The troops also arrested a suspected criminal at Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Area over an alleged attack on a family at Gonifal Guru.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Savannah Shield discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device along the Dekara-Masaka-Machan Geda-Baturen Daji road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The latest operations form part of continued military efforts to protect civilians and disrupt criminal activities across vulnerable communities and routes.
