Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 people in different parts of Zamfara State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operations, conducted on Sunday, took place in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
In Maru, troops of Sector 2 received intelligence that terrorists had abducted residents of Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the assailants, rescuing three victims.
A subsequent search of the area led to the rescue of another victim, bringing the total number of people rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops conducting a picketing operation heard sporadic gunshots around Kwanoni and immediately moved towards the location.
According to the military, the troops encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground and engaged them, forcing the assailants to flee.
The terrorists had reportedly set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants. However, the occupants managed to escape before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire.
The troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that reportedly lost control following the gunshots.
The affected vehicle was subsequently towed away from the road to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Military Reaffirms Commitment to Security
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and professionalism in protecting communities and motorists within the Joint Task Force’s area of responsibility.
The commander also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained offensive operations against terrorists across the North-West region.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities to security agencies through appropriate channels.
