Carlos Queiroz has quit as Ghana coach for the second time in three months following the Black Stars’ poor start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ghana Football Association confirmed on Thursday, October 1, 2026, that it had reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach to end his contract.
Queiroz returned to the Ghana post in September, shortly after his initial spell with the national team ended following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His latest stint lasted less than a month, with Ghana losing their opening two AFCON qualifying matches.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia on September 29.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan but conceded four goals as The Gambia completed the comeback.
The defeats left Ghana without a point from their first two Group C matches.
Queiroz said his decision to leave was reached jointly with the GFA.
“This was not an easy decision, but both parties agreed that, under the present circumstances, ending our professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action,” he said.
The GFA thanked Queiroz for his contribution and said further decisions concerning the leadership of the Black Stars would be announced in due course.
