President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.
Gatekeepers News reports that Daniel Amos, the lawmaker representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, announced the development in a statement on Friday, commending Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives and sponsor of the bill.
“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.
The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Services, said the transformation of the institution would strengthen technical and vocational education, promote skills acquisition and contribute to national development.
Amos described Tinubu’s assent to the bill as a “clear testament” to the president’s commitment to educational reform and human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the House of Representatives would support the “smooth take-off” of the new university.
According to the lawmaker, the institution’s elevation is expected to strengthen research capacity, expand opportunities for technical and vocational training, and improve graduate employability in Kaduna State and beyond.
The development marks a significant change in the status of the institution, with the new university expected to play a greater role in developing the technical expertise and practical skills needed to support Nigeria’s economic growth.
