WSCIJ Opens Registration For 2026 Amplify Media Conference

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has opened registration for the sixth edition of its Amplify In-depth Media Conference and Award (AIMCA), scheduled to take place from December 8 to 10 in Lagos.

Gatekeepers News reports that the three-day event, themed ‘Truth. Power. Rights. Journalism at the Heart of Democracy’, will bring together journalists, policymakers, academics, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss the role of journalism in strengthening democracy in the digital age.

In a statement on Friday, the centre said registration would run from November 6 to 27 through its website.

Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate and grand patron of the centre, has confirmed his participation and is expected to deliver remarks at the conference.

The programme will feature discussions on the intersection of journalism, information and artificial intelligence, as well as corruption, accountability, democracy and human rights.

According to WSCIJ, the sessions will examine pressing challenges facing the media, including disinformation, declining information integrity, restrictions on freedom of expression, shrinking civic space and threats to journalists’ safety.

Activities at the conference will include keynote addresses, plenary discussions, investigative journalism showcases and practical masterclasses.

The event will also feature the 21st edition of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR), which recognises excellence in investigative journalism across television, online, radio, print, photography and editorial cartoon categories.

The award ceremony is scheduled to hold at 6pm on December 9, while conference sessions will commence at 9am daily.

WSCIJ said it had combined the conference and award ceremonies since 2022 to create a platform for professional development, collaboration and recognition of journalism that exposes wrongdoing and advances the public interest.

The centre added that the 2026 edition would promote stronger collaboration among media organisations, public institutions, civil society groups and academic institutions, while advancing an ethical, independent and sustainable media landscape.

The conference will also commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day and Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 9 and 10, respectively.

WSCIJ urged journalists, media executives, technology experts, researchers, policymakers, development partners and members of the public to register through aimca.wscij.org ahead of the November 27 deadline.
