Half Of Nigeria’s Problem Will Be Solved With LGs’ Financial Autonomy— NULGE

President of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ambali Olatunji has asserted that the Supreme Court ruling that allows financial autonomy for local governments will solve over half of the problems in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that the president said this during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

Olatunji noted that the feat marks freedom and sets a new dawn for the nation.

Recall that Supreme Court, on Thursday, ruled that federal government should henceforth pay allocations directly to local government councils from the federation account.

Olatunji further noted that the financial autonomy of Local governments would also address problems of insecurity, lack of jobs, poverty, and infrastructural gaps at the local government level.

He said, “We believe that with the local government autonomy judgment, over 50 per cent of Nigerian problems have been fixed.”

“Also, we hope there will be financial integrity at the local government levels and all financial transactions will be tracked.”

The NULGE president said that the union will work with anti-corruption agencies to ensure growth and development.
