Operatives of the Imo police command have foiled an armed robbery attempt at Owerri North LGA.
Gatekeepers News reports that State’s Police Spokesperson, Henry Okoye in a statement on Tuesday, said operatives acted on credible intelligence.
A suspect, Moses Nanzi was arrested while others are at large after a gun battle with the Police.
“On October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:20 AM, a patrol team from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call about an armed robbery on Dominion Street near Don Kay, in Owerri North LGA,” the statement reads.
“Upon arrival, the police encountered armed robbers who opened fire on them — the officers demonstrating bravery, manoeuvred into strategic positions and effectively returned fire.
“During the confrontation, one suspect was neutralized, while another named Moses Nanzi ‘m’, 31yrs of Faringada in Plateau State, sustained a gunshot injury and was arrested.
“The remaining gang members fled into the bushes. A double-barrel gun and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspect.”
Okoye said the Police have launched a manhunt for the escapees.
