Jigawa State has gathered over N1 billion from state governments, and private and corporate bodies as support to victims of a recent tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura LGA.
Gatekeepers News reports that the state Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, Youths and Sports, Hon. Sagir Musa announced this after State Executive Council Meeting which was Chaired by Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi at Government House Dutse.
The commissioner noted that parts of the council decisions are a pledge of One Billion, Four Hundred and Forty-Eight Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,448,900.000) only as support to be extended to victims and families of the deceased by various individuals and organizations.
Their decisions also included supporting victims of the recent Majiya Town tanker explosion with foodstuffs consignment worth Sixty Million Naira (N60,000,00.00).
The approved estimate was for procurement of food items such as (Rice 25kg, Millet 10kg, Maize 10kg and Spaghetti 1Carton for each of the families) to the 210 deceased families including the families of victims who were hospitalized at various hospitals within and outside the state.
Likewise, family victims will also be supported with sum of Two Hundred Thousand (N200,000.00) only in addition to all medical expenses settled by the State Government.
The Council extended its heartfelt appreciation to Federal Government, 35 state governments, and numerous individuals and organizations—both within and outside Nigeria—who offered their condolences and support following the tragic tanker explosion incident in Majia Town, Taura LGA.
Additionally, the council approved the sum of Three Billion, Five Hundred and Fifty-Four Million, Six Hundred and Forty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty-Four Naira Forty-Six Kobo (N3, 554,642, 554.46K) being counterpart funding for 1-4 quarter’s of 2024 UBEC/SUBEB The funds will cover the construction of 304 Classrooms, renovation of 514 Classrooms, Construction of 27Schools perimeter wall fence, procurement of 29,984 sets of classrooms furniture and 646 sets of teachers’ furniture to be distributed across the state as well as construction of 4 block of basic science and computer laboratories.
The Council also approved the release of Three Hundred and Fifty-Three Million, Seven Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-Two Naira (N354,715,772.25) only for construction of city gates at Andaza, Karnaya, and Laraba in Dutse Metropolis as part of beautification in the State capital, Dutse.
