Senate has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request to refund N24 billion to Kebbi and Nasarawa states for executing airport construction projects on behalf of federal government.
Gatekeepers News reports that the house made the approval after senator representing Taraba Central, Manu Haruna presented a report on behalf of the committee on local and foreign debts.
Without objection, the president had asked the upper house of assembly to approve N15 billion for Kebbi and N9 billion for Nasarawa in May 2024.
He said aviation, including airports, safety of aircraft and carriage of passengers and goods by air is managed by federal government in line with second schedule of the constitution.
Senator representing Adamawa Central, Aminu Abbas said the request should be approved because the infrastructure is important to development and insecurity.
He said, “Airport is very important when it comes to development and insecurity.”
Senator representing Kogi East, Isah Jibrin also said his state recently got approval from federal government to construct an airport.
He said, “As soon as the project the completed, we will come here for a refund through promissory notes.”
The request was approved after it was put to a voice vote by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin
