A high court in Maitama, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has granted bail to Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, amounting to N500 million.

Gatekeepers News reports that Bello faces charges of alleged criminal breach of trust involving an estimated sum of N110,446,470,089. These charges fall under sections 96 and 311 of the Penal Code Law Cap.89 of Northern Nigeria, 1963, with penalties outlined in section 312 of the same legislation.

During the ruling on Bello’s bail application, presiding judge Maryann Anenih stipulated that the defendant is required to present three sureties, each for the same bail amount.

The sureties must be reputable citizens of Nigeria and own landed properties in specific areas of the FCT, including Guzape, Wuse 2, Apo, Asokoro, and Jabi. They are also required to provide two passport photographs and valid identification, such as a National Identification Number (NIN).

This bail ruling follows a previous decision just a week earlier, in which the former governor was granted bail in the sum of N500 million by a federal high court in Abuja regarding a separate 19-count charge related to alleged money laundering totalling N80 billion.
