Zike community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State has laid to rest 51 individuals killed in a recent attack in the area.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday, also affected the nearby village of Kimakpa, leaving scores dead and homes destroyed.
During the mass burial, community leaders and residents expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the recurring attack.
A community leader, Davidson Malison, described the situation as “disheartening,” noting that the community is still searching for more victims.
He added, “Something needs to be done to put an end to this.”
A women leader lamented saying, “They have been killing us in this our community, and several times, they will come and attack us.”
“They have been coming to kill us every time. We are tired of this killing. Enough is enough. Our children are dying, our husbands are dying. Our crops have been razed down by these herdsmen.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the attack in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on Monday.
Tinubu extended his sympathies to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the state government, and the people of Plateau, and urged him to summon the necessary political will to resolve the crisis and establish enduring peace.
The president called for harmony among the people of Plateau State, stressing the importance of love and unity beyond religious and ethnic lines.
He encouraged community, spiritual, and political leaders within and beyond the state to unite and end the cycle of retaliatory attacks that have made life unbearable for affected communities.
