Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon Paul Ohonbamu has said the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has commenced a process of restoring the good quality of life that former Governor, Godwin Obaseki deprived the people of the state in eight years.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement in Benin City, Ohonbamu described the past administration as a period of social dislocation, adding that it deprived Edo citizens of quality governance and a decent standard of living.

According to the commissioner; Governor Okpebholo is reversing these conditions with calm, humane, and intelligent leadership.

Ohonbamu said, “Governor Okpebholo is composed and thoughtful. Like a deep river flowing in silence, he quietly addresses what the previous government left unresolved. During Obaseki’s tenure, the Special Intervention Team at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) was allegedly used as a tool for control rather than progress.”

He noted that under Okpebholo’s leadership, the AAU Governing Council has been reconstituted, and longstanding issues at the institution have been resolved.

This includes the successful induction of medical graduates and the oath-taking of over 800 nursing graduates. He also noted a substantial increase in monthly subventions to the university—from N41 million to N500 million—which he described as a bold investment in education.

Additionally, Ohonbamu said the governor’s actions led to the recall of affected academic staff, reflecting a commitment to fairness and the rule of law.

He further noted that within Okpebholo’s first 100 days in office, previously unaccredited academic programmes at the Usen Polytechnic—such as HND in Business Administration and Estate Management, as well as ND in Mineral and Petroleum Resources—have now been accredited.

Ohonbamu praised the Governor’s background in ICT, noting that his company, INTERWEB SATCOM, was recognized in 2009 as Africa’s leading internet provider at a Geneva conference.

He called for respect for the Governor, especially from political allies, emphasizing that Okpebholo’s humility should be seen not as a weakness but as a deliberate strategy rooted in justice and confidence.
