Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the party leadership to zone its presidential candidacy to the South for the 2027 general election, citing fairness and inclusion.
Gatekeepers News reports that the stakeholders made this demand during a meeting on Monday in Abuja, where they also reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the party’s substantive National Secretary, in line with the Supreme Court judgment.
The stakeholders expressed concerns over the party’s drift towards self-annihilation due to disregard for its constitution. They emphasised the need for internal democracy, equity, and justice within the party ranks.
According to the communique issued after the meeting, the stakeholders resolved that only Senator Anyanwu can issue notices for national meetings, and any actions not authorised by him are null and void.
The group also demanded that the Acting National Chairman and Senator Anyanwu jointly issue a notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with an attached agenda for the National Executive Committee meeting.
They urged party members to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional mandates, and support the National Reconciliation Committee headed by Senator Bukola Saraki.
The stakeholders’ decision comes amid a longstanding dispute over the PDP National Secretary position, with Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye laying claim to the role. However, the Supreme Court has affirmed Anyanwu’s position, and the stakeholders have reiterated their support for him.
