Police Confirm Accidental Killing Of Inspector By 10-Year-Old Son In Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of Inspector Okolie Amechi, who was accidentally shot by his 10-year-old son on Sunday evening.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to it, unaware of the condition of his father’s AK-47 rifle, the child has unintentionally pulled the trigger, hitting the inspector in the back. The bullet also injured the officer’s second child in the hand.

The statement reads, “The Anambra State Police Command expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of Police Inspector Okolie Amechi in Awka.”

“The son unaware of the state, of the AK 47 rifle assigned to the inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the inspector in the back and his second child in the hand.”

The command added that the inspector was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel, while the injured child is currently receiving treatment and responding well.

The police noted that the rifle involved in the accident has been recovered, and the inspector’s remains have been deposited at the morgue.

The Command extended condolences to the bereaved family and friends, and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the second victim.
