Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate redeployment of security personnel on duty at the Government House.
Gatekeepers News reports that this followed the controversial lockout of journalists and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) during the Supreme Court victory celebrations on Friday, July 11.
This was announced in a statement by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor on Saturday, 12 July 2025.
Among those affected is the Camp Commandant, who was on duty at the time of the incident.
Governor Okpebholo described the development as “unacceptable and inconsistent” with the values of his administration, emphasising that he remains a people-centered leader who holds the media and supporters in high regard.
He said, “ This decision did not originate from me, nor does it reflect my values. I will never knowingly authorize any action that disrespects our supporters or members of the press. As a governor elected by the people, I remain committed to openness, inclusion, and respect for every stakeholder.”
The lockout reportedly prevented guests and party supporters from accessing the premises for the scheduled celebration, drawing criticism from stakeholders.
The Governor announced the constitution of a small investigative committee to identify those responsible for the disruption. He assured that anyone found culpable would face disciplinary action.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fostering an atmosphere of unity and transparency, assuring all supporters and stakeholders of their valued place in the journey to rebuild and reposition Edo State.
