Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an attempted attack by terrorists in Monguno, a conflict-prone town in Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focusing on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred at about 2:55 a.m. on Sunday.
The terrorists reportedly attempted to breach the town through the Charlie 15 axis but were swiftly intercepted by troops of Sector 3 under Operation Hadin Kai.
Sources revealed that the attackers were forced to retreat following a fierce gun battle. Blood stains found along their escape route indicated that several of the insurgents may have been injured during the encounter.
Seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a PKT machine gun belt, an empty AK-47 magazine, and an RPG bomb, among other military items, were recovered from the scene.
No casualties were recorded on the part of the Nigerian army, and no further contact was made with the fleeing terrorists after the confrontation.
