President Bola Tinubu on Friday hosted a delegation of former Governors who, like him, served from 1999, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the delegation including the first set of civilian Governors after the country returned to democracy was led by James Ibori, former Governor of Delta State.
Other notable attendees included Adamu Aliero (Kebbi), Joshua Dariye (Plateau), Saminu Turaki (Jigawa), Boni Haruna (Adamawa), Donald Duke (Cross River), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).
Also present were Lucky Igbinedion (Edo), Jolly Nyame (Taraba), Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom), Niyi Adebayo (Ekiti), and Adamu Mu’azu (Bauchi).
George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), who also served as Governor of Benue State from 1999 to 2007, introduced the delegation at the start of the meeting.
Some prominent members of the 1999 Governors’ class were absent, including Bisi Akande (Osun), Olusegun Osoba (Ogun), Achike Udenwa (Imo), Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), Sani Yerima (Zamfara), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu), and Orji Kalu (Abia).
The purpose of the meeting was not disclosed as of the time of this report.
President Tinubu had previously hosted the same group in July 2023.
