Dr Doyin Abiola, a veteran journalist and wife of the late MKO Abiola, is dead. She aged 82.

Gatekeepers News reports that Doyin breathed her last on Tuesday at about 9:15 pm after a prolonged illness.

Doyin was a pioneering figure in Nigerian journalism, becoming the first woman to be an editor of a Nigerian daily newspaper. She served as the managing director and editor-in-chief of National Concord newspaper from 1986, a position she held for several years.

Throughout her career, Doyin made significant contributions to the media industry, serving in various capacities and receiving numerous awards and honors for her work.

She was a recipient of the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) Lifetime Achievement Award and was granted an Eisenhower Fellowship in 1986.

Doyin’s legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. She endured the challenges and tribulations that followed the annulment of her husband’s presidential election in 1993.
