NNPP Dismisses APC’s Demand For Cancellation Of Kano By-Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected calls by All Progressives Congress (APC) for the cancellation of Saturday’s by-elections in Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the re-run in Ghari constituency of Kano State.

Gatekeepers News reports that APC had earlier urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the polls, citing incidents of “extreme violence.”

This followed confirmation by Audu Zango, Kano’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), that more than 100 suspected political thugs were apprehended during the Bagwai by-election.

Reacting in a statement on Saturday, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, dismissed the APC’s demand as “frivolous and unfounded,” insisting that the elections were free, fair, credible, and largely peaceful.

Johnson maintained that the results reflected the will of the people, noting that Kano remains a stronghold of the NNPP.

He said, “It is unimaginable that the outcome could have been otherwise. And the electoral history and outcomes in recent times in Kano State attest to this reality and conviction.”

The spokesman further pointed out that the elections had been validated by INEC officials who conducted them, describing the process as transparent and the victories of NNPP candidates as legitimate.

Johnson commended voters, INEC, and security agencies for their roles in ensuring a credible electoral exercise, urging all stakeholders to respect the outcome.
