Tinubu Arrives Japan For TICADS Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, for the ninth Tokvo international conference on African development (TICAD9).

Gatekeepers News reports that Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the President on information and strategy, announced this in a statemsnt on Monday.

Onanuga noted that the president landed in the Asian country early Tuesday morning local time to join other African leaders who will be attending the summit from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

He added that Tinubu was received at the presidential wing of the Haneda International Airport, Tokyo, by Hideo Matsubara, the ambassador in charge of the airport for TICAD; Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs; and officials from the Nigerian embassy.

The Japanese government initiated the triennial event, which is co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission, and the World Bank.

The event alternates between Japan and Africa, with Tunisia as the last host on August 22.

With the theme ‘Co-create innovative solutions with Africa’, the TICAD9 will focus on Africa’s economic transformation and improvements in the business environment and institutions through private investment and innovation.

It will also promote a resilient and sustainable African society for human security, peace, and stability.

During the conference that Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings and participate in high-profile meetings with the chief executive officers of some Japanese companies with investments in Nigeria.
