Kano State chapter of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, citing disloyalty to the party and failure to pay mandatory dues.
Gatekeepers News reports that Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, NNPP’s state chairman, announced the decision at a press briefing in Kano on Saturday.
Dungurawa said Jibrin had consistently undermined the party in his media appearances while owing outstanding financial contributions.
A day earlier, Jibrin hinted that he might leave the party, saying it should not surprise anyone if he made such a move.
He stressed that he was old enough to take a stand independently on what he considers best for his political future.
Dungurawa dismissed the lawmaker’s political weight, insisting his electoral victory was only possible because of the NNPP platform and support from the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He said, “If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong.”
He added that an earlier attempt to reconcile with Jibrin after his interview on Channels Television failed because the lawmaker went on to openly declare loyalty outside the party.
The chairman said, “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add.”
Dungurawa further alleged that Jibrin repeatedly defaulted in his party dues and warned that NNPP would pursue legal action.
He said, “We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so.”
On speculations that Jibrin may return to the APC, the chairman maintained that such a move would not weaken NNPP.
According to him, politics is about groups and coalitions, and Kwankwasiyya remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
